2004 gulf of alaska near juneau two men out fishing, one of the men caught what appeared to be a very large fish that he battled hard to bring in. Having no luck his friend turned to watch the epic war between man reel and fish but what he saw shocked him colder than the murky waters of the alaskan gulf it self, the man claims to of seen a webbed scaled hand holding the edge of the boat and reach up and grab his friend before violently pulling the man into the waters never to be seen again. The man also claims that as the creature dragged his friend to his death he saw scaled fin splash the surface before that to disappeared. To this date the friends body has never been found, was it the innuit legend of the Qalupalik the killer mermaid or simply a case of murder? In 1608 in the same gulf british explorer Sir Henry Hudson reported crew members sightings of a beautiful woman with fins instead of legs, a woman with pale skin and long flowwing raven hair. The tails of mermaids stretch way back in history as far back as ancient Babylonia even one of their gods was depicted as a merman and ancient greek god Tritan one of the most famous is also depicted as a merman even the Hindu faith have legends or mermaid gods. The Qalupalik is said in native legends to be a vicious mermaid that has finned legs and a scaley tail and who wears a robe with a pouch so that she can carry away children that venture to close to the waters edge, a good deterant for keeping a child safe from drowning? Most likely yes but stories and legends tell a far different tale to it being more than a water safety warning for those that can't swim. The gulf of Alaska is known to have Wolf Eels present within its waters and the strangest thing of all is the Wolf Eel has a face that resembles a old man and can reach 6 feet and over could the eel with the human face be the cause of the mermaid sightings, personally i doubt it...how can a eel with a old mans face be mistaken for a beautiful raven haired temptress of the sea? simply it can't. The gulf of Alaska is also known to have masses of kelp could kelp stuck to a fishing line be what was thought to be a hand? most likely yes and the Gulf is also known to be the hunting grounds for sharks this could easily explain the friends body never being found....however... Attacks in and around the waters of Kodiak island have increased of the past decade and a couple out for a day on the beach became witness to this. Because i have not directly spoke with this couple i shall use miss S and mr R as their names.. Miss S was laying on the beach sunbathing whilst her boyfriend mmr R went for a swim who claims he felt a hand grab his ankle and pull him down with a lot of power under the waves miss S heard his panic and his screams and ran into the surf to help as she pulled to save her loved ones life miss S claims to of seen leg and foot break the surface along with a tail and although the leg and foot was human it was covered in scales The Qalupalik legend places its origins in the northern artic and yes Alaska is a long way off but when you consider a whale may travel 10,000 miles to mate and sharks travel hundreds if not thousands of miles in search of food the killer mermaid travelling to Alaska if the creature is/was real is not so far fetched. These reports of the attacks are all around the same time may through to june which is the same time as the salmon start to spawn. In 2009 a fisherman 12 miles out to sea claims to of seen a large human form swimming at speed and damaging his nets. Clam Gulge in the guilf of Alaska two men digging for razor clams on a foggy day became seperated one mane named as Amir states he heard a scream of terror and ran in the direction of his friend, A mir found his friends bucket but the unnamed friend has never been seen again police were called in to the incident and it is stated the report not only states the body was never found and that there was no sign of an attack, no blood and no hair samples it is said that the report states officers witnessed webbed foot prints in the sand All i know is....i'm not watching a certain famous disney film ever again
